Slightly off topic, but I've found the RF 28-70 and RF 50 when both shot at f/2 near MFD have identical bokeh character. When choosing between the 24-70 vs 28-70, I also try to encourage people to consider 15-35 / 50 / 70-200 and forget the standard zoom altogether. Once you have the 15-35 and 70-200, you really only are missing 40-65.
I do agree with your logic on the F4 vs. F2.8. That is a big step up in price to just capture family moments. The EF F2.8 is a price alternative, however it is larger and heavier. For casual shots (travel, family, etc.) I find myself with an F4 trinity (14-35, 24-105, 70-200) more often than its F2.8 equivalent.
The Comparison: Canon vs Tamron. Canon’s EF 24-70 f/2.8L II USM has been hailed as the sharpest lens of its type, but it has no image-stabilization, and it carries a hefty price tag at $2049. On the other hand, Tamron’s new 24-70 f/2.8 VC USD does have image stabilization, but the company’s optics only occasionally match the standards
Optical limits has tested the RF 24-105/f4. In summary: It shows it strong Iq at f4/24mm. With moderate barrel distortion. And pretty good IQ up to 70mm pretty much equalling the Canon 24-70 f2.8 v2 from 24 to 70 at f4. It bests the sony FE 24-70. Significantly in the corners at 24mm. Its like a 24-70 with another 71-105mm available, minus the
